Zyvox

Zyvox

Zyvox (Linezolid) is an oxazolidinone antibiotic used to treat different types of bacterial infections, such pneumonia, skin infections, and infections that are resistant to other antibiotics. Zyvox may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. Zyvox is related to a group of drugs called MAO inhibitors.

Before using Zyvox

Before taking Zyvox, tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure, a seizure disorder, a thyroid or adrenal gland disorder, kidney or liver disease, bone marrow suppression, or a weak immune system.

How Zyvox Taken

Follow the directions for using Zyvox provided by your doctor. Zyvox may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, take Zyvox at evenly spaced intervals. Continue to take Zyvox until the full-prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection. Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve in 10 days.
